A Shakie situation.

Post by DOG »

I'm baffled. For the last 6 month my Gaui X3 has been flying great beside regular maintenance. Just resonantly she started developed a tail shake. I have not touch any #'s or settings since i put her in the air for the first time, so i have no idea why she develop this shake. She not hunting. I replaced the tail servo with a new one and the same thing still happening. I'm baffled that i haven't done nothing for this to happen. The Gaui has AR7200BX, KST servos cyclic/tail, 60a Yep, 1800Kv 6s motor/battery and it's all controlled by my DX6i. Tail gyro setting in my radio is at 65 and my timing for the Yep is set at 6 degrees for the motor. I changed the tail servo again just to see if it was a bad servo to begin with when i installed it. I won't know if this will work till the sun comes up and i can try it again. Any suggestion will be very appreciated. Yes NO crash involve. Thanks in advance!

I'm not very familiar with Gaui helicopters so this is just a guess. Is your Gaui a belt or torque tube tail? If it's a belt drive tail, perhaps your tail belt has stretched and simply needs to be tightened or replaced. I have to tighten the belt on my Trex 500 every so often and when it gets stretched enough I have to replace it.

Thanks Derek. Yes it's a belt Drive and silly me i didn't think about the belt getting loose after a period of time. I'll give that a try.

It's definitely something to keep in mind. After changing the belt on my 500, the tail holds very solid for a good long time. However, after a while, I will notice that the tail begins to get a bit erratic and unpredictable. I just loosen the bolts to the tail boom case and pull the tail boom rearward and then tighten the bolts again. Then, I'm good for another good long time.

Check your mechanics in the tail for any play.
My Warp tail stared acting up, and it turned out to be slop in the system.
New control rod links and pitch slider links, did the job for me.

Yeah...that's a good point, too! I do remember having to order a new tail rotor hub and bearings for my 500, once before too, because there was evidence of mechanical slop. +1 on Lee

OK, i didn't have any luck with tighten the belt or mechanical slop. I really can't tell how much slop is in the bearings. The tail shaft seems straight to me after putting it in my drill and spinning it. I'm just going to order a new tail set. $39.00 for the CNC upgrade. I don't like the plastic tail set that Gaui put on this X3. The upgrade comes complete with gears/shaft. I'll give that a try with a new belt and hope that will cure the illness. Any other thing i can try to get the shakiness out?

I dunno buddy! After replacing the whole tail with a CNC upgrade and replacing the belt, I imagine you'll be in great shape. Just be sure to clean off any residual oils off the new tail set with alcohol and locktite where needed. Let us know what happens.

Keep in mind that's a thrust bearing setup in the tail. You may need to take a look at those bearings and see if they need replaced. I don't think there are dampeners in the tail, its been a while since I built the tail. Also check the output shaft and make sure its still straight.

Hell bad batteries while using governor will cause the tail to shake. Especially on vbar.

As always, DOG....I'm glad that I could help. I just hope that we can collectively help you sort out your heli

Paul will probably be happy to see an active "heli" thread instead of all the "quad" talk, lol

I have the gyro gain in the TX set at 65. I haven't touch anything since the first day she was airborne. That's was so strange about it.
