Hello everyone. I have a question about positive and negative pitch of helis. Wasn't to sure where to post. On my Tarot 450 & Gaui X3 I'm flying around with +12/-12 pitch. I heard that some are flying around with their +/- pitch being closer to 13 degrees. If you increase the pitch on the heli would you have to increase the head speed to make sure you don't bog down on your RPM? I'm happy flying with +/- 12 on both of my birds but what would happen if you do increase your pitch to 13 degrees?

If your happy with flying heli at +-12 then leave it is what I'd say, don't tamper with something that's working... I'm sure one of the guys will sort you out soon..

With pitch and head speed its easy and hard to explain.

Typically, not always; the lower the head speed the greater the pitch. The higher the head speed the lower the pitch. I like a slightly slower head speed, somewhere in the ball park of 2700 on my X3, I run about 13° pitch. If I was to go up to 3200 on the head I would run about 11° of pitch.

You will want to check your ESC log if you have one, this feature is on the castle ESC, not sure who else has this feature. What your looking for is the amp draw from the motor. If your pushing the amp rating of the motor then drop your pitch by a degree or 2.

The hard part is that there is no magic numbers. You will have to experiment to see what works for you and your setup.

Pitch and head speed is something not discussed in detail. When noobs ask how set this up we throw out standard stuff llike 3200 at 10° pitch. Normally for most folks that's all they need and it works. When you start messing with these its more because you want to see how it acts or how it feels. I do it for the feel because at lower head speeds the heli is less stable and it allows me to work on control. Along with that collective management is key at lower head speeds because of head bogging. Yes the head will bog but with some finesse you can fly without bogging. Its a skill thing.

At higher head speeds you can hide mistakes. With the heli being more stable its easier to control and mistakes are not as apparent. Thing like collective management are not as much of a concern. This is what messes up folks when they switch to nitro. Nitro tends to have a bogging issue even at higher head speeds and requires collective management to fly correctly. Electric based kits have more torque and power over nitro but nitro has better flight times.

We could have a long discussion on this topic that could be educational. I have learned what I know about this through RCHN and what they talk about. Add that to some minor playing around I have gained that knowledge.

As always I could be off base a tad and if anyone wants to add corrections feel free. The info I have posted is as I understand it.

+1 for what uri said, I run my 550 on 6s and 5s. On 6s i run a headspeed of 2400 with 13° pitch on 5s i run 1850rpm with 15° pitch. The extra pitch on 5s gives the heli a bit more pop and agility , if you can call it that at that headspeed.

Thats basically what the pitch is for at lower heads. If you didn't the heli would be lethargic and wouldn't have climb ability.

Well I'll stay with the high head speed just like you said murankar " At higher head speed you can hide mistakes" that's me all day long plus i can recover quickly when i mess up. LoL
