Re: Uri's Big bird build journal
Okay the revoletrix maybe in the running. What I don't like is that they are 40c for the 3300 mAh. Now they will about 16g heavier than the pulse in total.

Okay so your 2g heavier than mine, per servo that is.
So I looked at revolectrix yet again and went to the highest rated Platinum 40c packs. I found these two packs that show promis.
http://www.store.revolectrix.com/Produc ... bel-40C-HV (I dont know how accurate the as advertised weight is but I think we hava winner.) These are $62.91 and come in at 410g. These are 100 mAh kower than the Pulse packs and 82g lighter.

Re: Uri's Big bird build journal
I finished at 2300 or about with the structural build. I had to grind my motor shaft because Scorpion put the flat in the wrong spot, No big deal. On the main bearing block; the cap that holds in the spacer for the main shaft, well I had a hell of time with that mentally. I thought I was stripping the screws so i set it aside. Went back later and said screw it and put the screws in and DONE. The head block kinda got me a bit too, really it did. So I got it all back together and tight, blade grips wouldnt move at all. I pinched something in there who knows what. Tore it down again and rebuild everything works as it should. Now the bearings feel notchy. Anyhow by the end of the night the head block smoothed out. The tail boom was another chore, the push rod guide wanted to fight the screw big time but I managed to get installed. I really have to get used to the tail pitch slider. It looks like there is a missing joint in there some where. Electrically the motor and gyro are on the kit and thats it. I have to get the servos setup, gyro registered and bound, charge my RX pack and get the Ultra guard setup. So I still have a lot to get done.
P.S. I still have to epoxy the push rod and reinforce the ends with floss and CA.

Re: Uri's Big bird build journal
Looking good, Uri! I have stripped out one part on a goblin build before, one of the short aluminium standoffs used on the FBL tray. It was attached to the transmission assembly, but the top screw point for the tray had stripped on one of them. The other side was fine so I was able to fly with it. Just put a load of loctite on the stripped screw, got it threaded down as best I could, then zip tied that side of the tray against the frame side. Worked well until a big crash afforded me the opportunity to replace the stripped out standoff.

Re: Uri's Big bird build journal
So are you going with the revo packs? That's from their Singapore store, so shipping may be an extra cost factor. ProgressiveRC has 3300mah gens ace packs: http://www.progressiverc.com/gens-ace-6 ... h-45c.html They used to deal in Revo packs too, I thought, but not seeing them there anymore. That revo pack is nice too because it has the 435 blend, which allows you to charge it up to 4.35v/cell. If you charge it to 4.2v/cell like normal you will get extended life out of it.

Re: Uri's Big bird build journal
PAul glad you asked that question. If I want to fly next weekend or sooner I will have to order the revo packs. I like the price and the weight while being heavier they are by far one of the most "Common man" based on price. I have the potential to save almost $100 or so dollars on the packs.
Where I stand right now is I just finished shortening the servo leads at lunch time. Last night I built the push rod, wrapped the ends in embroidery thread and soaked with CA. I then installed the rod and made an attempt to program the tail servo end points. I also placed the ESC on the ESC tray, ran the cables and trimmed the extensions to length and re ended the wires. I installed the Ultra Guard ran the needed extension wire for FBL power backup but it still needs and end put on. I am also thinking of trimming the power lead on the ULTRA Guard. I am close to being done on the wiring on her. As for stripped screws at this point I have one, its that tiny screw that mounts the Nylon bolt lock. Not sure how thats going to hold, after Bert Kammerer built his 500 on video he stated it really is not needed but makes good for security just in case. The Neo is mounted, registered and the keys file downloaded. The computer software isw talking to the gyro and of course the radion is talking.
My flight pack is going to be in the front with the main flight packs. I have and extension ran but needs trimmed to length. The wiring on the under side needs cleaned up. I am thinking of just taping the wire into the wire guide with black electrical tape/ grounding tape.
The tail servo is not dead on center but as it sits I have full travel on the pitch slider so I am not concerned about it. I still have to center the cyclic servo arms. They were fairly close after initial centering and installing the servo arms. They are close enough to not need to worry about it but I will go ahead and properly center the servos anyways. I want to get as close to a dead perfect setup as possible.
Finally I am deciding on either 13 or 13.5 degrees of pitch. The kit is rated for 12 - 14 degrees. Then I have to settle on a proper head speed. I am thinking of between 2200 and 2400 as my range. The stock pinion on my setup will do this no problem. If I can get 5 minutes ill be happy. Anything less is still open for discussion. I will see how I feel after the kit is broke in. I am thinking of doing pack break in while flying the 570.
will be hammering out more photos once I am done. I take some detailed pics of my setup so you all can see how I solved my issues.
P.S. Whats the wire gauge on the Revo packs? I will need to extend the back packs to the front. I will need to order the wire for that.

I'm running 2200, 2300 and 2400. Mostly I fly at 2300.
With the revo packs, I fly 5mins, and still have 3.85 per cell.

Re: Uri's Big bird build journal
The cruiser weight, the reigning champion coming in at 2788 grams or 6.15 pounds after adding in flight packs. Yes that right 6.15 pounds after adding in packs. Now that weight does not include connectors. I I could in theory reduce the weight by a couple hundred grams by replacing the motor and esc along with switching to a BEC or going non opto. Anyhow that's where Elinor sits as of right now.
After a behind the scenes chat I had I decided to order 4 Pulse ultra 45c 3000 packs. This is to get me through until the 3300 come into stock. I tried to get 2 more battery trays but Heli direct once again had stuff listed as being in stock when they were not. I also forgot to change my shipping address and sent an email right afterward and they were johnny on the spot to fix it for me. Kudos to them. They keep surprising me.
So about the batteries. So I went to order the Revo packs put them in my cart and almost got nailed with 153 dollars of shipping. SO the savings was not there. I found some 3000 45c packs that will get the bird in the air.
