Derek's Trex 600 Pro DFC

Time to start the thread on my 600. I have threads on my other two heli's, so here we go.
I have only one minor complaint about my 600 because it is flying very well...it's super solid...and it always asks for more. I like that I don't have to be as worried about the wind conditions because the 600, with Ikon, just doesn't care.
My complaint is this...because I wanted the USB port to be accessible, I have the USB port at the front of the gyro pad. That puts the servo wires near the motor. Although I've got over 50 successful flights, I just feel that the wires near the motor is a problem and an eye-sore. In hopes of remedying this, I've just ordered the Ikon Remote USB from HeliDirect.
http://www.helidirect.com/electronics/f ... e-red.html
I'm hoping that I can turn the Ikon 180 degrees and then have the USB port facing the motor. This will allow me to reroute the servo wires, away from the motor, and hopefully I can do a cleaner job of running the wires. The way that I understand the Remote USB is that I can put the Ikon unit, itself, nearly anywhere and then have the Remote USB connect to the SYS I/O on the Ikon, which will also be on the front side and away from the motor.

Sounds good. I might get one or two just to prevent the main usb port from getting broken from repeated usage.

I can certainly see the advantages of this. I've read some other threads about USB ports getting broken from repeated use. I've plugged my cable into the USB port on my Ikon, several times, and I'm very careful how I plug the cable in and remove the cable. Although, I think I can see how, if someone were in a hurry or a bit wreckless, they could break the port or the connectors to the port.

My Ikon remote USB showed up today. I didn't even get a chance to open the box before I left for work. I'll get to open it when I get home in the morning. I'm very much looking forward to getting it installed and rerouting some wires. I sure do hope I can make it look better.

Well, this is odd!
I brought the 600 down from the shelf and I thought I'd go ahead and update the Ikon firmware and then go through my Ikon and make sure that my 600 was behaving as it should. I plug the USB cable in...turn on DX8...plug in rx pack. Usually I get a small window that pops up on my laptop, in the lower right corner, saying something about using a high speed USB (or something like that) and then I can click on the Ikon icon and the Com Selector Window comes up and I click on COM3 and I go about my business in the programming.
That's not the case this time. I updated the programming on my laptop, turn on DX8, plug in rx pack...as as usual. That little window doesn't load up and I don't get the COM select window either. Odd!
I may just do a System Restore to take my laptop back to a previous save point, prior to the update, and then just leave well enough alone. Any ideas?

I messed around more with my laptop, trying to get the Ikon software to load up. No such luck.
So...I simply did a System Restore and that took my laptop back to the day before I installed the update (2 days ago). I plugged everything in and everything works as it did and all my settings are still what I had before. So, I may just leave it "as is" until I decide to try again.
Time to put the 600 back on the shelf and wait, impatiently, for the flyable weather. Today's high temperature was 7 F (-13 C) and the wind was whipping around at 15-20mph. I wouldn't even feel right trying to fly a paper airplane in conditions like this, lol.

If there isn't any problem with the way your heli flies, and the new firmware has nothing of interest to you, dont bother.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it

Agreed! The System Restore took my laptop back to before the update. I did double check that all my settings are still there, and they are so I'm happy.

lmao...it's too cold to fly. Today's high is only 19 degrees. I've got nothing against the change in the seasons and all but if I ever find that Jack Frost, I'm gonna teach him a lesson, lol.

I put my 600 through it's paces today and had an awesome flight. I was very calm and collected during the whole flight. I love this helicopter. It simply does what I ask it to do without hesitation. I just need to work on better coordinated combination maneuvers.....less hesitating between maneuvers. My Dad ran the video camera for me today and he did a fantastic job of keeping the helicopter in the middle of the screen. Video to come!

THanks Clay! I was "gettin' some", for sure! I love this helicopter and yes...i'm definitely feeling more and more comfortable. I'm still doing the same old "usual" tricks that I always do but I'm working on my control. I'm trying to not fly it away from me so far. Don't get me wrong, I still want plenty of distance between the heli and myself, but I'm trying to not over-fly it to where I'm flying straight out from me too far and then take a long time to get it back to me for the next maneuver.
I'm real happy with it!!!
