I Have A Woody :)

Get your mind out of the gutter, I am talking about my wooden framed quad. :)
I have built the frame and mounted the motors, just working out where to run wires and mount everything else.
At the moment it has 8" props on 300w 1100kv motors although 9" will just fit.
It will run 4s batteries.
I have a second vibration isolated level planned that will carry the battery, FPV and Mobius cameras and flight controller.
Motors are supposedly good for 1130 grams thrust for a total of 4520.
Flying weight will be around 1500 grams giving me a 3 to 1 ratio.
This thing should haul. :)

That's an unusual quad Stambo, do you think it will survive well in a crash, especially at your speeds...lol

Probably not, but it's not really being built for low altitude risky flying, more for moderate altitude insane speed. :D
I have plenty more wood for spare parts. :)

Looking forward to seeing it in the air. Certainly looks an incredibly simple quad to build...

Hey stambo. that is a unique quad that you're building there. Do you have some sort of diagram that you are going by or are you just winging it? Either way, i like it and good luck on the build. Different but cleaver.

I started with a diagram but pretty much made it up as I went along.

Bit more progress on the woody.

The ESCs were supposed to fit inside the frame but due to a slight technical error during the measurement phase they don't. :)

The motors will be screwed on before the maiden, I attached them with zip ties as I don't have the screws I need to secure them and I wanted to see how everything fit.
I certainly won't be trusting this sort of power with zip ties, although I did do a little hop in the lounge to make sure everything worked.
All going well I should have a maiden flight this weekend.
I will attach the mobius for some on board footage and if everything goes well I will FPV it soon after.
This thing should be crazy fast and I am expecting up to 15 minutes flight time with those 4s 5000s on it.
Overkill with such a big battery I know but it's what I have. :)

Looks good Stambo. It should have loads of power even with that huge pack.

First flight of my home made wooden 330 H quad.
Way to windy for a maiden but when has that ever stopped me.
You can see when I switch from Angle to Acro how much smoother the flight gets.
The Naze32 has had very little tuning as yet.
The little crash did no damage at all however I think in a big one this thing will be match sticks.
The beauty is for about $20 I got enough material to build at least 4 of these.

Specs
Naze32 acro
30a Simonk flashed ESCs
Turnigy 330w 1100kv motors
8045 props
4s 5000 35c battery (old and tired ones)
All up weight including battery less than 1.5kg
Reported motor thrust 4.5kg (3 to 1 ratio)
I have room for 9" props so I might give that a go too.
I can't wait to get my FPV gear on this thing, and maybe my OSD as well to measure speed etc.

That's truly awesome for a wooden quad.... Wow, sounds like those motors are just ticking over.... Excellent maiden
