My buddy Vern has created the Augusta RC Academy.. ARC(
http://www.iflyarc.com)and has been doing a great job spreading knowledge & info all things RC... Our hobby.. He has partnered with AMA, NSBE, local and distant pilots, Matt (Synergy) has donated stuff.. several Synergy pilots will attend and then some.. This is the 2nd time (I think it's the 2nd) for this Expo.. The NSBE STEM Tech EXPO... We are having this event at a local magnet school.. Free to the kids.. The AMA dropped off the trailer to us this morning.. Big screens with sims & stuff.. Currently registered put us at 4 large groups of kids... We will have a section for planes, multirotors, & helis.. Chic-fil-a is donating & catering breakfast & lunch... Pretty excited. We are gonna do real heli history.. RC heli history.. Different kinds of helis.. Mechanics, electronics, material, etc.. Kinda nice to give back a little.. Gonna demo the Chase in the gym as well as the big birds outside... Gonna be awesome! Just got done cleaning the fleet.. My N5C hasn't been this clean since I built it! Lol.. Excited!

I did get to fly my Chase in the gym.. Pretty damn awesome to be honest.. Was my first time indoor fly'n 3D.. Well.. My 3D anyhow.. Felt good about it until Leavr flew.. Lol.. Then I felt like sitting with the kids in the stands.. Lol.. He flew his Oxy3 in the gym as well.. Gotta say I'm very impressed with it.. He has put the stretch on it & says its night & day difference.. So if u have an Oxy.. Do the stretch!.. Anyhow.. As I get more feed back from the event I'll share it. After the event we went to our local spot for a few hours.. I got a few videos I'll post later on those.

Great stuff, Clay! You guys look to have had a great turnout. How was the interest level of the kids? Any connections made there to maybe entice them out to the local club(s) to try their hand at some flying?
A number of clubs from the area here do an annual "Model Aircraft Forum" held at a local charter school with a science emphasis, but oddly we get very few students in attendance and the forum's emphasis seems less on presentation, discussion, etc. and more on intra-club get together and swap meet. Especially this years (was held at the beginning of the month) when even the few presenters we had lined up mostly ended up bailing.
The school (as an administrative entity) benefits since the clubs donate the proceeds to the school, but they get very little out of it in terms of building any interest among their students in STEM topics or the hobby itself.
I'm going to suggest we make a greater effort toward lining up presenters, getting them locked in, and trying to encourage much greater interest and involvement of the students at the school. There are plenty of swap meets in the area each year, and we can keep that as part of the event, but we're underperforming as a community outreach and STEM motivator and it may well take a deemphasis of the swap meet aspect to make room for the more important opportunity.

I agree with u... While there were a good number with an noticeable interest... I did think a good many seemed like they were there for extra credit or to keep from detention or something.. Lol.. But the exposure was there for them... And a good many eyebrows were raised and a lot of questions asked.. So all in all.. I think it was good. This was my first time volunteering and to here others who had done it previously.. Probably wasn't as good as years pasted.. But.. Kids.. So.. But if you guys haven't got the AMA involved in ur local STEM expo/events.. Contact them.. They grant money tools that help a lot.
