I should be retired from the army in about 3 years. Will see how this s plays out. Pay won't kick in till I am 61 but at least it will be there. I may also have some disability checks as well. Only time will tell.

Yes from active duty. Before I left ft. Hood I had reenlisted into the reserves. I have 3 years on this contract and I think I have enough points to retire at that point. The reserves earn retirement points to gauge how many years one has served. I trhink its 60 points a year, if you participate in every drill weekend and the 2 week summer event. So 1200 points should be about 20 years.

To see where I stand I need to sit down with a career counselor and do a points worksheet. Once that is completed I will know where I am at. From what I have done so far i think I am at about 2000 points. If this is the case then I can start the retirement process now but it takes a year for the paperwork to go through the channels for approval.

Cool hope you get there:) When i left you have to be on standby for 3 years, so if there was a war you could be called up in that time, and up to the age of 40 if conscription came in you were first to be called. So although it was 3 years, for me it was really 18 years technically:)

Having said that, i would be first in the queue:)

Actually I have been out of that window for almost 10 years now. When a person enlists for the first time they have an automatic 8 year obligation. Now what happens is when the contract is signed one can sign for 3 to 6 years leaving 2 to five years left of the 8 year obligation. If that service member elects to getbout fully that still have that window to service in actively. Basically if they are needed they get called back if not then they just finish that 8 years and they are done. I hope that makes sense.

My memories are mixed, confused, and understanding , of who , where and what , when pushed, manipulated, what we are capable of.

It is a shame that the same effort is not put in to other areas by the government to achieve goals.

Friends, memories, great and sad times. People who excelled beyond all expectations.............too deep sorry guys:)
