Only problem, if the waters not deep enough to activate it, then you're stuffed.

If the thing just works based on pressure differential, if you know you're flying over shallower waters, you could either prep it by assembling in a freezer or perhaps pressurizing it slightly so it will deploy at shallower depth. Or maybe mod the thing to have less strength in the friction fitting.

It looks like an "O"-ring is the seal so you could also reduce the thickness so it releases at less pressure:)
