Holy fpv and quads...
You guys really have bitten hard on the Quad and FPV bait! Definitely the most active topics on the forum as of late. My local hobby shop has more or less stopped stocking anythign but micro entry level heli stuff and some planes, the rest is quads quads quads.
Interesting turn the hobby has taken.

Re: Holy fpv and quads...
So we need to make sure it is not.
FPV is not a crime, let's keep it that way.
It is probably the fastest growing segment of the RC industry.
We need to behave ourselves and play within the rules (as much as some of the draconian rules being drafted allow) .
Educate those that don't and explain why.

Stambo your absolutely right about educating and learning the rules. The only thing is that there's always a village idiot in the crowd to get attention even though it will ruin it for everyone else. To many people just don't give a damn anymore and that's Sad!

I'm not sure which way to take this thread, it appeared Paul was highlighting the fact that quads are the biggest topic on the forum, but it's changed to fpv rules.....
Anyway... I've got a quad because it really is loads of fun for very little bucks, no worries about crashing it, most I've replaced in a crash is 3 props.... Crash a heli and your looking at BIG bucks... Fun, fun, fun...

Re: Holy fpv and quads...
I think that is what is driving the change over: cost and ease of flying.
A lot of people were dabbling in helis, particularly in the micro arena, and were having bad experiences with repairs, costs, and inability to grasp hovering and basic hovering maneuvers. They also were forced to fly for no point beyond flying itself. Unless you're into flight for flight's sake, the allure quickly goes away.
Along come quads. Relatively easy to fly, often with flight modes that enforce polar coordinate system flight controls regardless of model orientation. Crashes, unless from high altitude or high speed, often are easy and low cost repairs. Inclusion of cameras or ability to accept a camera mount broaden the appeal to purpose oriented flight as opposed to flying for the sake of flying. The advent of relatively low cost and pre-packaged FPV and racing promises even more purpose to the models, putting them on the level of ground pounder racing in terms of potential to draw paying customers in.

Re: Holy fpv and quads...
I think FPV flying Miniquads has given people with previously little desire to fly RC aircraft something they can get excited about.
Let's face it, FPV is addictive, everyone I know that has tried it has said the same thing.
I describe it as the best adrenaline sport you can do without putting your body on the line.
When we have those goggles on we can fly, we are there, it puts us in the pilot seat of that aircraft.
I challenge anyone to look at my latest FPV course video without leaning their head from side to side.
With the goggles on, it is even more immersive.
I have had several people watch me flying through the monitor on my ground station.
Once I put the goggles on them and have a little fly around they are asking where to get this stuff from.
I generally suggest if someone has little or no RC experience, one of the cheap Banggood quads.
I still have a V959 that I put in the hands of total newbs to show them just how easy a stabilised quad is to fly.
The growth of quads in the RC hobby has also meant that people can fly in their back yards.
They don't need to belong to a club of grumpy old men that lose interest as soon as you mention multirotor. (Ok this one is from my own experience.)
It also gives Dads and Sons something they can both enjoy and bond over.

Re: Holy fpv and quads...
Well I've yet to experience fpv flying properly. Had a few goes and just can't get used to the tunnel vision.. But I'll keep at it... With LOS flying though I have no worries at all about crashing as its so cheap to repair.. (So far only props). This has meant learning orientation has been quite easy, this was always a struggle with my heli for fear of crashing... So quads for me are just great... I'm sure if I flew a heli now I wouldn't have an issue with orientation...

Re: Holy fpv and quads...
Tony get yourself a cheap ground pounder and stick the FPV gear on it.
It will give you the view of FPV without the added dimension of altitude.
That's what I did to get myself more used to the goggles.

The only ground vehicle I have is my tank... Guess I could try that... I'd probably be the first person on the forum to fpv a tank...lol..... Ok that's todays task.... You've convinced me Stambo....
