ESC's for Multirotors

This may be a "duh" question but I feel that I have to ask it.

Can any esc be used on a multi rotor? Or are there specific esc's for multi rotors?

When I bought the Velotech esc's for my ECHO 290, the esc's were in the "Multirotor" section. When I bought the Afro esc's, they were in the "Multirotor secion. I'm just wondering if it's a "specific" thing.

There are escs and firmware with fast update rates that are designed for multi-rotors applications specifically. Don't know if those two are examples of that though. Sometimes multi-rotor targeted escs will have longer wire lead lengths or come with bec and non-bec option for making sets (only one bec needed). And there ends what I think is my knowledge on that. :-)

What if I were looking for something in the 45-50amp range that was capable of 6S? Where would I find something like this?

I did see these esc's, but I was thinking that a bit more "cushion" may be beneficial.

As the other guys have said, multirotor specific ESCs generally have faster refresh rate and response times however many non multirotor specific ESCs can be flashed to BLHeli which gives a massive performance boost for multirotors.
Here is what I found with a quick search.

How cool would that be, but no.

Im just wondering about a 450ish quad with four 6S 450 class heli motors and 8-10" props.

Have a look at this. It Malc from RCUKTV. He flies at night, with night vision cameras, because he suffers from insomnia.
