Never Too Windy To Fly Something

Post by Stambo »

Jacob got to have his first FPV flight yesterday but unfortunately it was cut short by a loss of video.
We started him off with the little 7" monitor but he was not too comfortable with it, so I gave him a go with the goggles.
He said that was much better until the video went away.
After some repairs we were ready to try again but the wind had come up too much.
Ok next morning would be fine we thought.
We got up nice and early but it was already pretty rough so we had to flag it.
He is real keen to do it again so I will have to make sure everything is ready for the next time he is here..
All was not lost though, what do you do when it is too windy to fly RC, fly a kite off course.
We made this kite a while back out of stuff I had lying around but it never flew to well.
After a quick look on the net to see what I had done wrong and fix it this is the result.
The spars are carbon fibre from an old umbrella frame I just could not bear to throw out.
The skin is the inner lining from a long dead tent that once again I thought I would find a use for.
I am not a hoarder, honest. :)
Bit of fishing line and duct tape and off he went.
Jacob had a ball, the big smile on his face was priceless. :)
It still needs the PIDs tuned a little to get rid of the oscillations but we will get there. :D
