Movie editors

Post by Tony »

Guys, i need to know a good movie editor, something that allows you to flip videos, cut sections out you dont want, add clips...etc etc...

ive been using Windows live Movie Maker recently but today its being a pain it the butt, tried 3 times now to get this video edited and published of my flights this morn to no avail. gets so far though saving it and crashes, (not responding errors)...

any ideas, what do you guys use..

If you want something cheap and simple try this http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products/dv ... HOCKvmUd68.
It's free and it's ideal for cutting bits out of and off the ends of a movie you want to post raw with no fancy effects.
It can do it without re-encoding so it is real fast and has an audio wave so you can easily see when nothing is happening.
Then you can put it through H264 encoder to reduce the size for upload. http://www.h264encoder.com/
As with anything freeware watch for installers from other programs when you install them.

I also use Edius 7, there is a fully functional trial version that works for 30 days, but there are cheaper or free alternatives out there.

I have used pinnical studio and Sony Vegas. Vegas is a nightmare to learn but very robust. Pinnacal is very easy to learn but not as robust as vegas. Don't get me wrong pinnacal will do just about everything a hobbyist will need. I have used openshot is an ooensource version of widows movie maker.

Movie Maker is a popular option. I use Adobe Premier, but it is an expensive option. Corel and Sony have some good lower cost options. As far as free editors, I'm not sure.

Thanks everyone, I'm looking at them all now, not bothered if I have to pay as long as there reasonably easy to use (being an old buga) and can do the usual cutting, pasting etc, also needs to flip movies vertically. Forgot to mention that. I occasionally use the möbius upside down and always forget to change settings to flip it..
Appreciate your help guys

Might want to check out Corel VideoStudio line of editing software. They bought out the Roxio/Sonic product line a while back, including Creator and the VideoWave editor. I'm not sure how much of VideoWave lives on in their current offering, but worth a look (I had a hand in the Roxio product line for video editng and dvd/BD authoring, back in the day).

I tried that Lee it's great for time lapse photos to video conversion. But I believe it only accept 2 different video formats, not the .Mov files the möbius does....it wouldn't accept mine anyway..lol

One that I use and is free is avidemux. You can download different library's if you need them and I find the performance better then some of the paid editors. I also use Nero's editor as well as the gopro editor.

Thanks mate, I'll have a look at those. I've got the wondershare, paid for that but it keeps crashing with access violation errors. Been in touch with them and asked for a refund... So I'll have to try some others now..

That sucks Tony, your memory too. Just kidding I have never had any problems running Wondershare. I'm not saying it is great or anything because it wasn't that expensive but anything you can't get to run isn't worth much. works fine for me.

Have you tried cutting a section of video out Ken and pasting it back in somewhere, then highlighting that bit of vid and slowing it down... Basically I tried to repeat the crash bit of one of my vids but run it in slow mo, that was when it crashed with access violation error... Could be my laptop, no idea. It has 8g of ram, and it's a 3rd gen i5 processor. Should be ok..
