FPV VTX Extension Question

Post by Derek »

Ok guys..I'll try to keep this short but I want to explain what "I have" and what "I want to accomplish".

In the above picture, you can see the location where I have my 5.8ghz vtx with a short extension to the antenna. I wanted the antenna on an extension to protect the SMA connector on the vtx in the unfortunate event of a crash. The video system is working flawlessly.

However, I really want to have my 1.3ghz vtx also installed on my wing. I like the idea of having the 5.8ghz video onboard for when I'm flying with my friends because the 2.4ghz control doesn't interfere with the vtx. I'd like to have the 1.3ghz video onboard for when I'm out, on my own, in the country and I can fly longer distances and I won't have to worry about the 2.4ghz control interfering with my video (I use a 72mhz Futaba 6 channel tx for my own control).

So, in the above picture, you can see my 1.3ghz vtx and the approximate location of where I'd like to install the vtx. I'd also like to install the 5.8ghz vtx near the same location as the 1.3ghz. Then, when I want to switch from one vtx to another, simply change out antennas and move the antenna extension from one vtx to the other. I just ordered a 15cm SMA Male to SMA Female extension. I wanted a longer one but I couldn't find one.

So, I'm curious....would I be ok with connecting the 15cm extension to the 10cm extension that I already have? Should I hunt around for a longer extension?
