I Hovered My New 180 CFX!

Post by HeliBaby1527 »

First time flying her, since I got the new bird for Christmas! :D Been buying and hoarding parts for the little beast ever since!
It only lasted about a minute, but it was awesome! First "real" hover of one of my CP helis...
I dropped the tail in the dirt, so I've got a little fixing to do, but that's okay...nothing new for me!
I couldn't believe how powerful she is...I think Blade got this one right! ;)

Wish I'd gotten it on video for you guys...maybe next time! :D

All the best,
Terry

The 180 is not the heli you want to be trying to learn to fly a cp heli with
It is a 3d beast. And way to advanced for a newbie cp pilot

Congrats on the maiden, Terry. I must admit I'm a bit jealous - I want one myself.

I put in a couple flights on my 180 yesterday at a local indoor model expo and fly-in. I had a lot of trouble seeing it with the background in the gym we were flying in. Lot of high contrast dark blue and white lettering, flags, banners, etc. But managed not to crash. Starting to get a feel for stationary flips and rolls with it. Gym was big enough to do backwards upright loops and forwards inverted loops. Rainbows. Tic tocs didnt' work out so well, need to get better with collective on the model and also dial up the cyclic roll rate (hoping servo travel adjustment works like it does on the 7200BX). Also had a tendency to travel left while doing the tic-tocs despite having slightly nose right attitude. Will get it ironed out. Still a great flying micro heli.

Thank you Marius, Uri and Paul for your kind words of encouragement and experience! I am going to take "baby steps" with this bird, for sure...I know what she is capable of and I respect that wholeheartedly! I learn a little bit more with each flight...Way to go, Paul! I wish I had a gym to practice in... :(

If you are looking for a structured way of learning check out RCHN's pilot proficiency program. They lay out what skills they feel should be learned at each stage of flying. The goal is to complete each task three times with a witness so they can sign you off. There is no order in which to complete each task in a given level. Its about mastering the task and then working on the next task. Very handy.
