Yes he did Lee, I had to watch it again, couldn't hear it last night with Mrs watching TV. I can imagine a lot of stress on the motors when it's under water. But just what I need...

Electricity takes the path of least resistance, that is through the windings.
As long as the insulation is good that's where it will go.
The moving part has no electricity, just magnets, the windings in the middle create more magnets to oppose or attract the ones on the bell.
I have seen brushless outrunner motors mounted on the outside of RC subs and they seem to work fine.
