I've been tossing the thought around of building a 48 inch Ekranoplan.

It's an interesting contraption, lol.

According to Wikipedia, an Ekranoplan is:

A ground effect vehicle (GEV) is one that attains level flight near the surface of the Earth, making use of the aerodynamic interaction between the wings and the surface known as ground effect. Best known are the Soviet ekranoplanes, but names like wing-in-ground-effect (WIG), flarecraft, sea skimmer, or wing-in-surface-effect ship (WISE) are also used. In recent years a large number of different GEV types have been developed for both civilian and military use. However, these craft have yet to enter widespread use. The German Tandem Airfoil Flairboats or Skimmerfoils constructed by Gunther Jörg differ in their use of self-stabilizing wings.

Although they might look similar and/or have related technical characteristics, ground effect vehicles are not aircraft, seaplanes, hovercraft, or hydrofoils - ground effect is a separate technology altogether.

Unless you have a boat, I think flying expensive electronics over water is risky. I've heard so many stories of people crashing into a lake and then watching their toy sink to the bottom from the shore. I think they are cool but not for me. Go for it Derek.

Well, fortunately, I do have a boat. Also...as for the electronics...that would be a purchase from Hobby King...inexpensive, expendable, but functional parts. :-)

Lee...that really is a fantastic find!!! The idea in my head on an Ekranoplan is very similar to what is shown in that video...very similar. I may have to steal a few thoughts from that video, lol. Thanks for that!

lol...I haven't even started it. I'm pretty busy with Dustin's helicopter, two of my own plane projects, the reconfiguration of my Trex 500, and then my family, too. Once I get a few projects completed, I'll start getting more serious about the Ekranoplan but it should be pretty cool!!!
