I don't know of any scale bodies specifically designed for the 550X.
I have had a look, but nothing came up.

I just saw that AMain has 550X kits (no ESC, batteries or FBL/Rx) for $260 or something like that. Crazy. I bought mine in March-ish 2013 for $1k (full combo kit). :)

Always thought the 550X was an underrated heli. Still the most flown heli in my fleet. Love it.

One of the align 550 airframes (new ones with 600 boom) would fit in the aerodynamic fuses you would just have to make sure it has the correct drive system for the airframe being used.

Scale helis take some planning. Can't jump in whilly nilly, unfortunately.

Hey Paul, i wanna cut my Carbon Fiber side frame on my Blade 550x where the batt goes and put two 6S batts there so that i dont have to take off the canopy, my question is, would the carbon fiber break if i cut off some carbon where the batt goes? or have you try this on your Blade 550x?

Could you take a pic and highlight what you're wanting to cut? The battery area is big enough where you could probably put two 6S packs in there end to end line in a 600 or 700 size heli. It sounds like you're wanting to put them side by side somehow. I would think that would weaken the frame significantly.

Like I said, I don't think I'm understanding what you're wanting to do here. Pic with an explanation would help.

Why are you wanting to cut these? Just to have easier access to manipulate placement of the battery back there?

I'd only cut one of them, and I'd see if I could notch it instead of completely cut it, if possible.

I'd also consider maybe grabbing some spare CF sheet or buy an SAB battery tray for a 630 or 700. Put the coarse velcro on both the bottom of the tray and the top of that bottom plate. The two will interface and provide a decent amount of lateral sheering resistance but be easy to remove from there. Then strap in down over each battery.

Dustin was talking to me about this the other day. He's ultimately wanting to get 10-11 flight times by running two packs at once.

Dustin...in the end, it is your helicopter.....do what you want....but in my opinion, I think you'd be much happier if you just fly the helicopter with one pack at a time. You aren't a hardcore SMACK pilot so I would think that your packs would easily go 5-5 1/2 minutes each....maybe even 6. The added weight of the second flight pack will take away from the flight time a bit. I, honestly, don't feel that it would be worth it to cut your frames.

I'd just hate to see your cut your frames and then you change your mind and you aren't happy with it and then you have to spend the money for new side frames. Just go ahead and get your 550x built and fly it.

well i been learning more and more about this new Forum, i seen some post about the 550x being discontined with the parts, so im hoping the IKON will save my blade 550x, but im sure that they will be alot of parts out there, even the blade 450 3D is gone but I can still get parts for it.
